Consider my cockles suitably toasty…

Monday, August 31st, 2009

An article in today's Quill and Quire Omni edition details the rapid expansion of ChiZine Publications over the last year. It's a for-pay article, but I think it's okay for me to quote a pertinent bit:

"As for the deal with HDS Retail, it was built around one specific title: Robert J. Wiersema’s novella The World More Full of Weeping. According to Savory, HDS – which operates the bulk of the country’s airport bookstores – actually approached the LPG about carrying the book, based on the success of his previous title from Random House Canada, Before I Wake. Savory says that The World More Full Of Weeping will be sold in about eight to 10 HDS locations."

Which makes me very happy indeed, and very pleased for Brett and Sandra.

Last chance!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Folks, it's August 31.

That's the end of summer.  The dwindling of days.  Oh, and your last chance to buy the limited edition of The World More Full of Weeping.

This is the signed, numbered, hardcover, collectible edition, with the short story the small rain down unavailable elsewhere.

Dig under your couch cushions, defrost your credit card, whatever it takes, don't miss your chance!

It's available at HorrorMall, but only today!!!

A glimpse of WorldCon…

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I'm going to do my utmost to post about my experiences at WorldCon last weekend (which can best be summed up thusly: books, noodles, launch, noodles, booze, noodles, etc.), but in the meantime, fellow CZP brother-in-arms Claude Lalumiere chronicled it for the Montreal Gazette. I'm linking to a late post, because I really am that craven (scroll to the bottom to see just how craven…)

(And I was asked, over on FB, if I was really as hungover as I look in that photo.  The answer: no.  Not hungover.  Never been hungover.  So there.)

And if you've been holding off on ordering the limited edition, do it NOW — pre-orders close in the next couple of days.  It promises to be more gorgeous than even the paperback (which is oooooooooh-inspiring), plus bonus story!  And signatures!  And hardcover!

To whet your whistle…

A month or so ago I pre-launched The World More Full of Weeping a breakfast room full of booksellers in Vancouver.  To mark the event, I composed a chapbook which included the first few pages of the novella, the first few pages of Places and Names (the essay which accompanies the novella), and a special letter to booksellers giving a little of the backstory behind the composition of the novella itself.

Because I know you are all interested, all both of you, Brett has posted the chapbook for your edification…

Yes, I'm that craven.

Time is running out!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Good morning, y'all.

It's down to the hours now: Wednesday sees us headed out to Montreal to launch The World More Full of Weeping at WorldCon, with a big party on Saturday night (7:30 pm, Maisonette Suite 2802, Delta Hotel, Montréal) for the full CZP list.

Which brings me to a small matter: you've got less than 2 weeks if you want to order your own copy of the limited edition. That's right — 2 weeks to get your name down for a lovely little signed hardcover, a strictly limited edition, with a bonus story not available in the paperback… And all for a very reasonable price (limited edition wise).

Don't risk waking up a month from now with a gaping hole in your life where that limited edition should be. Don't risk being scorned by your friends for not having it.

Or, as Xander says, "Everyone should buy a couple of copies and hang onto them — they'll be worth a fortune!" Ah, the confidence of children!

All kidding aside, though — it's a beautiful book, a good story (or 2!), and, most importantly, it's a good project from a brave new Canadian publisher. That in itself is something to get behind.

So, two weeks. You can order online at HorrorMall, or, if you'd prefer, through Bolen Books (drop us an email at books@bolen.bc.ca).

Thanks.
